One thing that you`ll realize once you come to Japan is that the food is delicious, and so are the snacks! First let`s talk about the different kinds of snacks. I would categorize them into a two unoffical categories. Conveninece store snacks and department store snacks.
THE SNACKS AT CONVENIENCE STORES
The snacks at convenience stores are the standard snacks that people buy on a regular basis. These snacks are fairly cheap and delicious. One unique thing about Japanese snacks is that because there are so many big name competitors, companies release new flavors often to keep a competitive edge. These flavors or only available for a limited time and are very delicious. Some big convenience stores names in Japan are 7/11, Lawson, and Family Mart. They are everywhere so you`ll have no problem finding one. I would recommend trying one of everything!
THE SNACKS AT DEPARTMENT STORES
The snacks they sell at department stores are more expensive. People usually buy theses as gifts for other people, or sometimes for family and friends for special events. Usually the bottom floor (or basement floor) of depatment stores such as SOGO, DAIMARU, and HANKYU, are filled with delcious snacks. Some are very traditional Japanese snacks stores, some are more modern, some are from overseas, but all of them are amazing! So definately check out these stores. You can have your cake and eat it too!
