The largest wholesale fish market in the world is in Tokyo, Japan. So even if you`re not a seafood person, do check it out!
The market opens really early in the morning, so you`ll have to wake up really early. The market usually opens at around 3:30am - and goes till about 6am. The tour of the fish market usually starts later, but you`ll have to go there early to secure a spot.
There`s also a wholesale area where there are many small stands and stores sell seafood. Tourist are not allowed to enter the area until 10am as it may interfere with business.
Although this area is a great spot for tourists to check out, it`s important to remember that it`s not intended to be a tourist attraction. It`s a market where serious people go to buy and sell seafood. So make sure to follow the rules when you are there.
The Tsukiji Market is located here. And the closet stations are Tsukiji Station or Tsukiji Shijo Station.
THINGS TO REMEMBER BEFORE GOING TO THE MARKET
-line up early
-it`s cold so bring something warm to wear
-there are no trains that run during the night so stay somewhere close to the market
-wear normal shoes
-don`t use the flash when taking photos
-check the calendar because sometimes it`s closed (the website is in Japanese but you`ll get the just, the red days are closed)
